Wild flowers and spirals: new La Pittura pieces

HAY has added a set of new pieces to La Pittura, its coveted collection with the artist Emma Kohlmann. We are proud to be one of only a small number of UK retailers stocking the range in full.

La Pittura, a recap

The shared desire to bring art into the everyday led to La Pittura, a collaboration between Danish design experts HAY and artist Emma Kohlmann.

Meaning 'the painting' in Italian, La Pittura translates Emma's work into a series of hand painted table and homeware pieces designed to infuse artistic expression into everyday life.

Emma's work is intuitive, flowing and colourful, uniting her main inspirations, nature, the human form and love, across the collection. Emma is keen for her artwork to be accessible to all, and what better way to enjoy it than during our daily meal time rituals.

Every piece is painted by hand, sold separately, and arrives in a beautifully illustrated gift box. No two are painted quite the same, so small shifts in line and colour are part of the character rather than a fault.

The new pieces

Wild flower plates

Two new botanical designs join the range, klokkeblomst (the Danish word for bellflower) and crocus. Both come in two sizes: a 24cm plate for sides, breakfast, lunch or cake, and a 28.5cm dinner plate for a full course.

These are the most openly floral designs Emma has made for the collection so far. Loose, painterly stems that look like they were picked on a walk.

They look as nice propped on a shelf or hung on a wall as they do on the table. 

Spirale bowl and Spiralise cup

A repeating spiral motif arrives on two of the collection's most used shapes. The 12cm Spirale bowl is the size we reach for constantly, for olives and nibbles before a meal, for keeping sides separate, for nuts or a small dessert.

The Spiralise cup holds 240ml in the same minimal handleless silhouette as the rest of the range. Perfect for a morning coffee, and equally nice for an evening tea with a book.

It's more subtle than some of the bolder designs, which makes both a good starting point if you are building a set.

Stained glass trivet

An 18cm trivet in a new Stained glass design. A practical piece for under a hot dish, and lovely enough to leave out between meals. The trivets are one of the easiest pieces in the collection to give as a gift. Shop the stained glass trivet

Building a table piece by piece

The new designs sit happily beside the pieces already in the collection, so nothing you have bought so far is left stranded. That is rather the point as La Pittura works best collected over time, a plate here and a cup there, until the table looks gathered rather than bought all at once.
