Blästa Henriët works with sustainable linen flax and Cotswold wheat to create self-care products that provide relaxation, natural pain relief and everyday comfort.

The fabric is sourced directly from the mill in Europe. Every other part that goes into making the products is done in the UK. This includes details such as the stitching, label making, plus the recycled product packaging and fabric printing.

Earl of East is was founded by Niko Dafkos and Paul Firmin in 2014. What started out as a shared passion project, has grown organically into a thriving business. A love of fragrance and a desire to build something of their own led them to develop home fragrance products, which has since expanded from just three candles to a line that encompasses, candles, incense, home mists and bath and body products. As well a growing collection of stores in London!

Susan's favourite fragrance is Onsen, reminiscent of Japanese bathing rituals and featuring heavily in the Lifestory collection.

ferm LIVING draws on Scandinavian design traditions and simple aesthetics - but with a distinctive edge that makes every item firmly contemporary. ferm LIVING is rooted in Denmark, founded by Trine Andersen.

Lifestory was the first boutique in Edinburgh to stock the ferm LIVING home range (2005) and we now bring the full ferm LIVING collection to our customers, including made-to-order items such as sofas and tables.

These collectable, abstract tree ornaments are hand-turned on a lathe so that each one is unique.

We use off-cuts form a wide variety of woods and turn a them into different shaped Trees. This way each one ends up with its own unique character. These look great as a small collection on a mantlepiece.

HAY is a Danish company founded in 2002. HAY considers it their principal task to provide functional answers to functional needs. Answers that are translated into meaningful and authentic products that have a long life span and are available at a democratic price. House Doctor was formed in 1999 by two sisters, Rikke Juhl Jensen and Gitte Juhl Capel, and their brother, Klaus Juhl Pedersen.

All jewellery, prints and products are designed solely by James in his studio based in Brighton. All items are made by small artisan companies supporting manufactures and fabricators to help artists create a quality product.

Jude Gove is a Scottish designer and maker, creating her handmade leather accessories from her home in Scotland. Her distinctive style is easy to spot, functional forms that are beautiful and persona. Preferring not to use a machine, every stitch is by Jude's hand.

Kähler is a Danish ceramics brand that has created innovative design for the people for 175 years.

Today, Kähler is a highly valued part of the Danish cultural heritage, but also one of the most popular and innovative brands in Scandinavia that merges authenticity with contemporary design products.

Laurie Maun is a Designer based in East London. Although Laurie’s core study is textiles, she can also be viewed as a multidisciplinary artist, spreading into mediums such as printmaking, drawing, painting and photography. 

With an obsession for slow made/hand made process Laurie focuses on the importance of traditional craft and workmanship within the UK.

Lex 

Pott works from his design studio based in Rotterdam having graduated in 2009 from the Design Academy Eindhoven. He employs a raw and intuitive method, choosing not to hide his designs under indirect layers, but reducing them to their very essence.

The inspiration for Lindform comes from Scandinavian nature with its organic tones and simple shapes. 

Design, shapes and colours are chosen to give harmony to the room but also act as an interesting eye-catcher. The collection contains influences from Japanese design, a minimalist style that marries well with Nordic design.

Lindform is a Swedish family business that has been in operation since 2007.

ola is a British paper goods brand established in 2013 by designer Katy Goutefangea. Working exclusively with UK makers, ola produces beautiful everyday items with an emphasis on craft, quality and traditional manufacture. 

ola was one of the first brands Susan stocked at Lifestory, alongside ferm LIVING and HAY.

Danish company Paia's soy candles are designed to look perfect in your home, whether it is styled minimalistic or bohemian chic, while still taking care of the environment. 

The first collection is a series of scented candles based on organically grown soy beans grown by North American farmers – a biodegradable and renewable resource. Paia added organic cotton lead-free wicks and poured them into high quality, mouth blown glasses in elegant colours.

Rains is a contemporary rainwear lifestyle brand creating waterproof designs for the global citizen. Influenced by its Scandinavian heritage, Rains practices an uncompromising approach to simplicity and is of the opinion that proper rainwear need not come at the cost of considered design.

The first version of the Cardprotector won the Red Dot Design Award in 2010, the same year Secrid launched their line of leather wallets. They won the European Aluminium Award with the Miniwallet two years later.

SENSORY FACULTY is a high-end artisan scented soy-candle brand based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The candles are hand-made, individually numbered and available in limited quantity. 

SENSORY FACULTY celebrates the complete sophistication of human senses by incorporating all five elements (smell, taste, sight, touch, & hearing) into one product (scented candle) and one cosy experience. The four scents have different characters, background stories and playlists for download: Chronologer, Spirit, Londrey & Nonsense 

Shangies is a new, unique and stylish sandal brand from Denmark. The footwear is designed for everyday life so your feet can feel comfortable and relaxed - no matter where you are. Shangies sandals are extremely light and therefore easy to take along when, for example, your trip takes you to the beach, a picnic in the park, a yoga holiday in Bali... 

The sandals, which include a unisex style, are characterised by the eye-catching cotton ribbons that form a fine braid pattern. The insole is made of airy, durable canvas fabric from the jute plant, which has a cooling effect and is very comfortable underfoot. Best of all they are washable!

Studio Arhoj, located in Copenhagen, is a small independent studio run by founder Anders Arhoj. Anders began his work in interiors and design while studying in Tokyo in 2005. After moving back to Denmark he began operating a small design studio from his apartment in Vesterbro, eventually moving into the world of ceramics.

The Organic Company is a Danish design company which creates meaningful and tasteful interior textiles from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton. Popular ranges include the Big Waffle collection of towels and kitchen accessories, plus their exceptional oven gloves, laptop covers and other functional wares.

Tom Pigeon is a creative studio founded by Pete and Kirsty Thomas in 2014. They met and started working as designers in the early 1990’s and since then have worked across design disciplines, for small companies and big business, designing all kinds of prints, jewellery and stationery as well as taking on creative commissions and consultancy work. Their work is exhibited and sold across the world and we are delighted to feature it at Lifestory.
