Meet the makers: the Scottish artists and ceramicists we stock
Supporting local makers has been part of how we curate since the beginning. There is an energy and care in a handmade piece that you can feel the moment you pick it up, and we love being able to introduce these Scottish artists, ceramicists and small producers to a wider audience.
This is a short introduction to some of the makers behind our local Scottish makers collection, and why we are proud to stock them.
The ceramicists
Borja Moronta
One of our most loved makers. Borja Moronta is a Scotland based ceramicist whose hand thrown cups, bowls and bottle vases come in beautifully understated glazes like nightshade blue, moss green and cloud white. Each piece is thrown by hand, so it carries the small variations that make it feel one of a kind, from a £32 curved side bowl to a £105 statement bottle vase. Browse Borja Moronta.
Blanc Ceramics

One of our newer makers, and a lovely addition. Patricia García is the Edinburgh potter behind Blanc Ceramics, working on the wheel and by hand to create calm, timeless pieces in clean organic lines and soft neutral tones. Her slow, considered process is environmentally conscious too, reusing all her excess clay so nothing goes to waste, and because each piece is made individually, no two are quite the same.
Aku Ceramics

Quietly tactile, everyday ceramics made in Scotland. Aku's pieces have a calm, pared back quality that sits happily alongside Scandinavian design, which is why they feel so at home on our shelves.
Emporium Julium
Small batch, characterful ceramics, including lovely handleless pourers for milk, cream or sauce. These are the sort of useful, sculptural little objects that make an everyday ritual feel considered. Find Emporium Julium in the collection.
The jewellers
Behind Bracken
Edinburgh's own Behind Bracken makes elegant, wearable jewellery in recycled silver and fairmined gold, with celestial inspired pieces like the Sol and Luna hoops. It is jewellery with a conscience as well as a beautiful finish, ranging from around £50 to £100. Browse Behind Bracken.
The artists and printmakers
SOOuK (Soo Burnell)
Edinburgh photographer Soo Burnell is known for her serene, architectural images, including the much loved poolside and swimming series. We stock her art prints, from around £35, and her book To The Water (£45). See SOOuK.
Tecari Designs
Witty, food and drink loving prints and cards with a bright, contemporary feel, from a £3.60 greeting card to A3 prints around £28. The kind of pieces that bring a smile to a kitchen wall. Browse Tecari Designs.
Studio Romuu
We have a particular soft spot here, as Studio Romuu created our Edinburgh skyline prints in collaboration with us, a lovely keepsake of the city from £39. See the Edinburgh skyline print.
The textile makers
Hilary Grant
Hilary Grant makes contemporary Scottish knitwear, designed in Orkney, with bold, graphic colourwork in soft merino, think beanies, scarves and gloves built for the weather but far from traditional. Find Hilary Grant in the collection.
The makers of good things to eat, wash and read
Bare Bones Chocolate (Glasgow)
Glasgow's Bare Bones make proper bean to bar chocolate, roasting and grinding single origin cocoa in small batches, from £2.70 mini bars to £13 pouches of hot chocolate flakes in two flavours. A reliably brilliant little gift. Look out for seasonal limited editions, especially around Christmas. Browse Bare Bones.
Dook (Edinburgh)
Edinburgh's Dook makes natural bath and body care with a Scottish soul, salt soap bars, bath soaks, face and beard oils, often in scents like rosemary, frankincense and juniper, from £12. See Dook.
Hidden Scotland
The beautifully produced magazine for anyone who loves exploring the country, a lovely £15 read and a natural gift for a traveller. Browse Hidden Scotland.
Hidden Scotland also makes a couple of popular Travel Guides; find Edinburgh and Isle of Skye guides here on our website, as well as the annual calendar.
Why buy from a maker?
When you buy a handmade piece you are buying someone's time, skill and care, not a mass produced object, and no two are ever quite the same. You are also supporting a small, often one person business directly. We choose every maker ourselves, stock them in our Edinburgh shop and online, and ship across the UK and now to the USA and Northern Ireland, with every order packed by hand.
